Iontophoresis Q&A
Ask me anything about iontophoresis
Iontophoresis is a recognized, scientifically proven, and medically accepted therapy for excessive sweating.
Iontophoresis forever?
No, it doesn't have to be that way. Hyperhidrosis can go away exactly as it came. Bye bye iontophoresis and welcome natural skin condition without sweating!
Iontophoresis can taper off. You will have longer treatment breaks and can leave the iontophoresis device in the cabinet more often. And perhaps one day you won't need it anymore.
In this case, renting an iontophoresis device is a good option.
Iontophoresis current: Dangerous or safe?
Iontophoresis devices are safe medical products. The current runs in the low voltage range. If you pay attention to your bodily comfort, nothing bad can happen.
If you feel the current (it tingles), you can lower the current intensity.
You notice slight redness (which should disappear after 5–10 minutes) even if you do not feel any discomfort from the current? Then you can lower the current intensity until the redness no longer appears. This simply means that you are not sensitive to the current. ⇒Adjusting the current right
Implants, braces, screws, plates, jewellery, prostheses, and piercings
Metal is a contraindication, but only if that metal lies in the path of the current. If you are treating your feet, dental implants or braces are allowed. See iontophoresis and implants.
Can you regulate the current intensity?
All our devices have the ability to finely adjust the current intensity. Some devices even allow you to adjust the pulse width.
Iontophoresis side effects
Since iontophoresis was not invented specifically to treat sweating, let's talk about the most pleasant side effect: Iontophoresis can stop sweating.
Other side effects are not expected unless the current intensity is too high. In that case, there may be redness or tingling.
Excessively dry skin can also be a clear sign that you have treated too often, too intensely, or for too long.
"Washerwoman's hands" can occur after a long iontophoresis session. Such wrinkled hands will soon disappear.
Iontophoresis is reversible and conservative
Conservative means without intervention.
Reversible: If you stop using iontophoresis, the skin will return to its previous condition and start sweating again.
Are you a beginner or a newcomer? Iontophoresis is not too complicated once you know how it works. Don't waste any time and start learning about the therapy right away!
Is there a habituation effect?
No, many users successfully continue their iontophoresis treatments throughout their lives without any loss of effectiveness.
Do you always have to increase treatment frequency and intensity?
No, the therapy is highly individual and changes over time. It is possible that there will be times when you need to treat more or sometimes less to stay dry or prevent excessively dry skin (dosage - sometimes you need more, sometimes you need less). The effectiveness threshold may also vary, and it can be challenging to overcome this hurdle. (See our notes on pulsed current for more information on this topic).
