Iontophoresis for the underarms
Therapy against axillary hyperhidrosis
(underarm sweating)
Iontophoresis against armpit sweat: due to its high success rate, this form of iontophoresis therapy has become a standard treatment.
To treat underarm sweat, small electrodes are placed into wet sponge pockets. These conduct the current into the sweat glands of the armpits.
Although this form of electric therapy may sound unpleasant or even painful, discomfort is not a given.
Unfortunately, in the first days of iontophoresis, when the classic direct current procedure was applied even to sensitive regions, the armpit treatment often caused precisely those problems of discomfort.
Nowadays, applying direct currents to the armpit region is no longer common practice. Instead, the armpit treatment functions almost completely on the basis of the more advanced pulsed current.
Ever since the advance of the new and gentle pulsed current, this relatively sensitive area can be treated easily and safely with iontophoresis.
Since the skin of the armpits is very thin and sensitive, we recommend choosing a gentle and sensibly timed pulsed current.
The current strength is of great importance. Usually, only low currents can be applied to small and sensitive areas of skin.
Therefore, it makes sense to set the pulsed current to a pulse width of 50-60%, which is the gentlest form of pulsed current available.
If you only want to treat small areas of skin, the low-cost Hidrex classicION would certainly be a good choice. The classicION delivers a pulsed current of 50% pulse width.

If you don't want to make many adjustments and wish to avoid the issue of an unwanted incorrect setting, we recommend the Idromed 5 PS due to its very easy usability.
