Iontophoresis for the feet
Sweaty feet: treating problematic sweat
Iontophoresis has been an established therapy against sweaty feet for many years. The therapy is a recognized medical procedure with high success rates. It has proved itself efficient thousands of times.
The chance of a successful therapy is highest when treating the feet.
The thicker the skin, the smaller the sensitivity to the electric current. The feet can endure the highest current level, while the hands and other sensitive areas can only tolerate so far before the current becomes uncomfortable.
The feet can be treated extremely well with iontophoresis, even at higher currents. Higher currents are more efficient and considerably shorten the required treatment time.
Even though many users treat their feet with direct current, we see clear advantages in using the more advanced pulsed current.
In our opinion, the greatest benefit to the treatment of the feet is to adjust the pulse width to the thickness of the sweaty areas. A pulse width of 80-90% usually works best.
The Hidrex connectION with VPC (variable pulsed current) offers just such a function. The pulse width can be adjusted from 50% - 90% in steps of 10.
Full control, manageable effort, easily becoming familiar with the operation - the Hidrex connectION offers many options and a number of possible combinations.

Choosing a device for the foot treatment
As mentioned above, adjusting the pulse width to the thickness of the sweaty areas can offer enormous advantages. The feet usually require a pulse width of 80-90%.
The very efficient Hidrex connectION offers the possibility of such an adjustment through its VPC option (variable pulsed current adjustable in steps of 10% between 50% and 90%).
If you like it a little less complicated, there are other devices available:
Dermadry has a fixed pulse width of 90%. Though it is a little less powerful than the Hidrex, in our opinion it is an excellent device for the treatment of the feet due to the optimal pulse width of 90%.
Our less expensive devices, which can be switched between 50% pulsed current and 100% direct current, are not always the best choice.
We believe that a pulse width of 50% is often too weak for a foot treatment. A pulsed current of 80% or 90% offers a higher current level in the same treatment time. Classical direct current - 100% pulse width - is often a little too strong, especially when using higher currents. This often means that the user is forced to apply a lower current.
If you'd like our recommendation for a pulsed current device with a fixed pulse width in the lower range, we'd advice you to take a look at our automatic model Idromed 5 PC. It is extremely easy to use - its advanced user friendliness makes the Idromed a perfect device even for child patients.
The iontophoresis devices in the Idromed 5 PC series offer a protection against undesired settings and could well be called the easiest iontophoresis devices in the world.
One button - switch on the device - adjust the current - the rest is child's play: the device regulates the therapy automatically from start to finish. This is how quick and easy iontophoresis can be!

Iontophoresis boundaries (feet)

An example for the influence the pulse width can be on the average current strength.
This graph shows an averaged and realistic example of the hand treatment. It was measured on and by our own team and resembles both our own user experience as well as the experiences of our customers.
| Iontophoresis for sweaty feet | Direct current 100% | Pulsed current 90% | Pulsed current 80% | Pulsed current 70% | Pulsed current 60% | Pulsed current 50% |

| Reachable current* | 15 mA | 27 mA | 24 mA | 21 mA | 18 mA | 15 mA |
*average current for the test person from our team when using the iontophoresis device Hidrex connectION for the foot treatment
For a better overview, the values were rounded. Our team member has been an iontophoresis user for many years. When treating the feet with direct current (100%), the tolerated treatment current was ca. 15 mA. When choosing a pulse width of 50%, the treatment current was just as high (ca. 15 mA). This is the highest output of the device for the pulse setting of 50% - the current acts only half of the time. Though the direct current of 100% could offer twice as much current strength in theory, our test person did not want to use a higher current strength due to the intensity of the treatment feeling.
When using a higher pulse width, the situation changes: the maximum output can be tolerated very well in all pulse settings, including the highest one. This equals 60 volts with an average current of 27 mA!
The best and highest value (21 mA) was reached with a pulse setting of 70% - again, the highest output for its setting.
With a pulse width of 80%, our team member was "only" capable of tolerating a current of 19 mA. Thus, elevating the pulse width could not bring an additional improvement to the averaged maximum current. The same was true for a pulse width of 90%: the averaged current was equal to the value reached with a setting of 50%. While using a pulse width of 60%, the maximum output was reached, averaging to "only" 18 mA.
The difference between 9 mA and 21 mA measures 2½ times.
